Download MIUI 12 based on Android 11 for Xiaomi Mi, Redmi, and Poco devices

Most of the Xiaomi devices have now been updated to either the latest MIUI 12 or the newer MIUI 11 based on Android OS. Recently, we posted about the latest MIUI 12 by Xiaomi with the list of features and number of devices receiving it. While MIUI 12 launched with Android 10, Xiaomi is slowly upgrading the firmware to Android 11 as well. Google released the first official stable Android 11 update for the Pixel lineup back in September 2020. How To Install Android 11 for Xiaomi Devices

This is a generic way of flashing the MIUI 12 full update package onto Xiaomi devices. However, it can vary depending on the device and the region your phone is located in. Also depends on the network carrier you are on.

Note: Flashing a wrong ROM may make your device unstable and cause serious problems leading to bricking your device.

1. Local Update

  1. Transfer the download .zip file to your phone, and ensure you place the file in the “downloaded_rom” folder in the internal storage of your device. If no such folder exists, create one in your internal storage base directory.
  2. Within your phone, navigate to Settings > About Phone > System Update, and then press the three-dot icon in the top-right corner, and select “Choose Update Package”.
  3. If the “Choose Update Package” option is missing, tap on the MIUI logo 10 times to activate the option.
  4. Choose the downloaded .zip file.
  5. Wait for the update to install.

2. Recovery Update

  1. Rename the downloaded .zip file to update.zip and transfer it to the base directory of your phone’s internal storage.
  2. Reboot your phone into recovery mode by powering it off and then pressing both the Power and the Volume Up buttons together.
  3. Scroll to the “Install update.zip” option using the volume keys, and select the option using the power button.
  4. Wait for the update to install.
  5. Choose the “Reboot” option if your phone does not reboot by itself after installation is completed.
