Android 12L Beta 1 Now Available For Select Devices

Back in October, Google unveiled the Developer Preview for Android 12L, an Android flavor designed for large screen devices such as foldable devices, tablets, and ChromeOS devices. However, it is also supported by the phone. It has now released the first beta version of the OS.

With Android 12L Beta 1, users will see improvements in notifications, lock screen, quick settings, home screen, and more. There’s also a two-column layout (shown above on the two devices on the left) that uses screen space to show you more information. It also has multi-tasking enhancements such as the introduction of a taskbar that allows users to quickly switch to split-screen mode and quickly switch between their favorite apps.

The build also includes improved 12L APIs for developers, performance optimization, and bug fixes. Developers have access to updated blood tools and system images if they want to test their apps on an Android device or emulator. Beta also comes with December 1 security fixes.

For now, you can check out the Android 12L Developer Preview 1 on the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro tablet, or register your Pixel device with Android 12 Beta to get the over-the-air update as soon as it’s available. Alternatively, you can flash the system image on an auxiliary Pixel device, or try it with the Android emulator.
